William Brewster

Like a lot of people, MY Mayflower ancestor was William Brewster and I am used to hearing his name when the usual story of the Mayflower and the Pilgrims is told. There was practically no mention of him in this production; instead it focused on how difficult they had it. SO: Bravo!!!!!! It was a big gamble for the producers - the Pilgrims were NOT the only people on the Mayflower - and this production actually tries to tell a more COMPLETE story!!!! So, long story short: looking forward to the conclusion tonigt.

My great grandfather x13 would have nothing of it haha. He wasn't in the mood about the religious stuff.

I have 2 Mayflower ancestors, Edward Winslow and Stephen Hopkins. Both have had fairly big roles in this production.Winslow went on to be a pretty good guy. The "hothead" Hopkins apparently was always in some kind of trouble, albeit, minor. From what I've read he had a tavern and couldn't seem to keep it closed on Sunday.

Four hours is just not long enough for this story.

Absolutely not long enough, but at least Nat Geo tried to portray a more realistic story.
Congratulations on the Winslow/Hopkins connection. Genealogy is tough when there are few written records, every generation seems to have the same name (I found soooooo many people named William) , plus it seems that every family had 9 or 12 children.
But its fun- I went through the same sort of mess with my Republic of Texas and Cherokee ancestry! Would I do it again? YES!!!!

I am also a William Brewster descendent. I am trying to figure out how any show about the pilgrims could leave him out. He was one of the leaders of the community and had a great influence on their life there in the early years. I am not sure now that I want to see this.

These are only shadows of the real world...

I think they wanted to concentrate on the reality of the hardships. They glossed over Myles Standish eventually leaving Plymouth with Brewster in order to establish Duxbury. Maybe the WHOLE story was just too much for them. WE descendants have gone through the research to find out what happened so I agree with you: leaving Brewster out does NOT tell a complete story!
