The Mermaid is now the 2nd highest grossing film of the year, so far.
While Deadpool may have made more money. The Mermaid is funnier!

I'm from the UK. Went to see it in the cinema with my mate, the rest of the cinema was pretty full and all Chinese except us. We all laughed from start to finish. The comedy style is universal :)

While I enjoyed this movie, it is nowhere near as funny as Deadpool. In fact, compared to earlier Chow efforts, such as Kung Fu Hustle, this borders on bland. Don't get me wrong, this film has moments of comedic brilliance, such as the "assassination" scene, but overall this is a sub-par Chow effort. I don't mind the focus on romance or the environmental message, but the plot is extremely pedestrian compared to earlier Chow films. From the trite storyline to the mediocre CGI, this is just a "good" film, at best. Deadpool had more laughs in the first segment, than this film did altogether.
