Was that the International Space Station? In 1987??

I saw this movie at least twice in cinemas, and the bit where the Decepticons are torturing Bumblebee and they hatch their plan to use human satellites to inform their HQ of where the Autobots are, they show what looks at first like a highly complex satellite, but could be the ISS instead. Was that not meant to be the ISS? Or is it a goof?

In any case, I've only just noticed that it may be the ISS. Great movie, despite this "error".

The first component of the ISS wasn't even launched until 1998.

So it's a goof, then. I prefer to think of it as some super-advanced secret satellite that only the US military (and now the two Decepticons) know about.
