Wow. This is only after 12 reviews, but it's certainly a great start.

It will be interesting to see how that score changes as more reviews come in.

Could it be? Could it be that someone actually made a GOOD Transformers movie?

You better believe these glowing reviews! :)

That’s right, I thought it was a very good movie. It’s small-scaled and has strong ET & The Iron Giant vibes (I argue it is what a Transformers movie would have been like if Spielberg had made it in the 80’s), but it nonetheless feels like what a Transformers movie should have always been like.

Aesthetically pleasing, funnier than expected, genuinely heartwarming and it has actual character-building. Bumblebee himself felt like a real, fleshed out character and his relationship with Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) was moving and really handled well. And yes, as expected the action was thrilling, polished and badass.

Obviously it won’t win over everyone, but honestly I failed to see any problems with it. It was well-made, thoroughly enjoyable, and endearing (as 1980’s as it gets!). Having Travis Knight as director unsurprisingly made all the difference.

Sounds pretty awesome!

When I first saw the trailer for Bumblebee I got a strong Steven Spielberg vibe--it was similar to the feeling I got when I first saw the trailer for Super 8--so I'm glad to hear you confirm that it has that kind of feel to it. After all, if there's one thing the world needs more of, it's films with a Steven Spielberg vibe.

I am not familiar with Travis Knight. I just looked him up, and I recognize some of his films but I haven't seen any of them. Sounds like he did a good job here, though.

Yeah, several reviewers have also compared it to Spielberg’s classic films and it’s easy to see why. Interestingly, Spielberg (who’s been an executive producer of the Transformers franchise since the beginning) was the one who suggested a female protagonist for Bumblebee, so that’s cool.

As for Travis Knight, he’s mostly been known for his work in stop-motion films and his critically-acclaimed directorial debut “Kubo and the Two Strings” is a big reason why many felt confident he was going to be bringing something different and essentially better to the Transformers franchise. He did.

I actually caught a pre-screening of this film and completely agree with your views on the film. I absolutely am a sucker for the 80's. I love Goonies, ET etc. I also am a huge Iron Giant fan.

This is what Transformers should have been from the start. It is a film that you can take your family to. There are no shots of women in skimpy outfits or lame sexual jokes for 14 year olds. The humor was tasteful and I adore Hailee Steinfeld. I have loved her acting talent since True Grit.

I had a lot of fun with this movie.

Concur. I myself have been a fan of Hailee’s acting for years and I couldn’t have been more impressed with her performance in Bumblebee (great casting). The movie is a total delight and it made me want to see more of this franchise.

I will own it on blu ray once it is out.

With the themes, negative reviews would be racist.
