Weird "no animals were harmed" language

Maybe somebody who hasn't seen this yet can pay attention during the end credits and report back, but you know how they usually say something about how the filming was monitored by the Humane Society and no animals were harmed? I think this one said something more like "The Humane Society monitored the filming of some scenes and no animals were harmed in those scenes."

LOL! I didn't think to look for that. You have a smart attention to detail.

Perhaps they could add a disclaimer?
"We are using this movie to teach people survival skills thanks to our current economy. Some animals sacrificed their lives during filming."

I appreciated the tip about following a stream north until you get to a point where you can see more clearly where you were. It was a nice movie.

Somebody asked at the Skype Q&A.

In the scene where Bella is plucking dead critters, they are actual dead critters, a possum of some sort. They are a nuisance creature with no natural predator and in competition with native fauna.

Thanks for the report.

So I guess they killed the possum for use in the scene. Maybe they should have tried to find a road kill one so they could have gotten a completely clean bill of health from the Humane Society. Then again, plucking a dead possum is bad enough; plucking a possum that's been dead for a while would be extra gross and not really add to the movie.

reply

How do you know it wasn't road kill? Also, they are farmed in NZ, so they just as easily could have gotten from a farm.... They use their fur for yarn, so I doubt it was waisted.

The exact quote at the end of the credits is "No animals were harmed in the making of this motion picture." Its right after the "entirely fictional" part.

reply

That's what's usually in movies. You didn't see the reference to the Humane Society that I saw?
