Edgerton wasn't boy's biological father, was he?

It was never explained. What were we supposed to think?

I don't have any academic background in DNA or genetics, but as a casual watcher I took it that Joel Edgerton was Travis's father, and Travis was somewhat lighter skinned and he favored his mother.

Travis was obviously mixed race

But his skin was darker than his moms.

I assume he had black grandparents - it's called genes

Equal amount of black and white grandparents yes, but still he's darker than his mom.

I figured he was his step son from an early age. I’m glad they never addressed it because it just isn’t important to the plot.
