The most engaging and smartest pilot I've seen in years.

In all the time since Amazon has started letting the public see pilots and then vote on what gets picked up for series, this is by far the show I most wanted to see continue.

Well, apparently I crossed my fingers just tight enough because we're getting a ten episode season of Patriot.

No premiere date yet, but apparently it'll debut sometime in early 2017.

The show itself is a masterfully accomplished version of a spy story where the character is so damaged and so underprepared for his mission that it will be a miracle if he can pull it off.

Forget Bourne and Bond. They're unrealistic to the point of becoming full-blown parodies of their respective franchises. John Tavner, on the other hand, is a spy who is desperately working to accomplish his goals with precious little help and a real make-it-up-as-he's-going-along ingenuity that is both realistic and thrilling.

And damn, is this show funny.

In the first few minutes of the pilot, Tavner, in order to establish a cover identity, must quickly come up with a way to make himself seem like the best candidate for a job he he is barely qualified to do. Watch what he comes up with. The man is a fast thinker whose moral compass is seriously in question.

I hope this goes on for seasons and seasons.
