Opening Scene
Can anyone explain the opening scene where someone gets his brains caved in by a pipe-wrench. There is some dialog in the movie alluding to this incident later. Anyone have any ideas?

When Davis tells Flores and Hobbs he has no other choice but to get the drugs to where they need to go, Flores responds telling Davis that he should have come to his partner for help. Davis replies to that by saying there is no way out once you are marked by the cartel.
When Luna and Hobbs are in the back of the truck, they have a conversation about a man named Mike (who is presumed to also be a Border Patrol agent). Luna states that he doesn't want to see Davis have his head bashed in with a pipe wrench to which Hobbs replies, "Mike made his decision. Just like Davis did."
