Why are people trying to compare this to Game of Thrones?

Don't know why some reviewers here are giving it bad ratings because "it's not like GoT."

Not sure where you guys are getting this impression, just because Jason Momoa is in it?

Pretty childish to knock it because of that.

Even though this is not 100% historically accurate I still was greatly entertained.

Solid 8/10 for me. If you enjoyed Vikings this should be right up your ally.

Cause it tries to have plots and schemes like Game of Thrones does and it falls flat on its face doing it.

Game of Thrones fell apart in season 5. After they had to dumb it down for the millennials. Plot and story got replaced by shock moments with zero build-up, and the mouth-breathers cheered for it and thought it was great.

reply

Hey now. TV has gotten MORE complex during the rise of the millenials and our incessant binge-watching. Don't blame us.

reply

Just a bunch of fanboys who seriously think GoT is the first show to do everything. Not worth giving the time of day.

reply

Yeah, fanboys AND fangirls have done that.

OK, let me qualify my statement, just to make clear, I watched the first season of Game of Thrones and was bored to the point that I followed it no longer. I've watched the first few episodes of Frontier and plan on watching it some more. With that said, it was pretty obvious right from the start that this show was a GoT clone. Just from a stylistic point of view alone (note the similarities of the opening credits) it definitely falls in the category of shows that were made popular by GoT. It's, also, probably why they cast Jason Momoa, hoping to capture some of the GoT fanbase. Sure it has differences but listing them would be like, say, pointing out the differences between Dallas and Falcon Crest, they were both night time soaps with different casts. GoT and Frontier, are both period soaps with different casts, hence the comparisons which do not surprise me.

reply

The only likeness to Got is the opening credits. Beyond that, there are no similarities.

Your right. I do see some similarities but I'd compare it to a lot of other shows before GOT. I mean for example each episode Game thrones tries to slide in a twist during the end each episode. Frontier on the other-hand does not care and will slide twist in when ever they are necessary even if that means an ending of that episode will be seemingly boring n at first. Also the character Dynamics are much different primarily because Frontier has a much smaller cast to plot line from.I can go on for ever. But I'd much sooner compare this to Westworld,DareDevil, or any other netflix drama before I would compare to GOT beyond the opening .

And the opening credits for American Gods also resembles GoT, with a dash of the creds for The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo tossed in.

The entire alleged argument here is analogous to saying that a Kia resembles a Maserati because they both have four wheels.

reply

They compare everything to game of thrones because they are stupid.

This^

Maybe because the people behind the show keep doing it? The very first announcement compared the series to GoT, and that promo Discovery Canada plays over and over again has the Sokanon actress saying "It really is like Canadian history meets Game of Thrones!"

Probably a way to get people interested. I haven't watched more than a little GoT so I don't know how well the comparison holds (besides the production values obviously being different).
