Australia is full of red necks....

....according to most of the films we make here. It's tragic.

Why can't we just make a mainstream film? Our films are populated with a very very strong bias towards "redneck" characters. Do people really think we all speak and look like people portrayed in this film? Big Akubra hats, getting "pissed" at ute musters and speaking like "yer mate!", *beep* oath!", "she's a fine sheila!". It's embarrassing. Imagine the USA making 90% of their films in the Deep South with characters who spit tobacco and drink big cans of Bud Lite. Yeah, that's where these Aussie films are at the moment...... I.e. A very very small and embarrassing part of our population.

We also need to get over this obsession with promoting how Aussie we are in films. You can't see an Australian film these days without it being rammed down your throat that "WE ARE AUSTRALIAN". We may not have budgets to make VFX heavy films, but we could certainly produce witty and/or smut films like Superbad, Knocked Up etc. no problem. Those films can be made anywhere and, perhaps more importantly, wouldn't need us to ram our faux Aussieness down the throats of everyone around the world...
