Hmmmm....

I didn’t know how to take this film, it left me feeling a little confused. I don’t even think I enjoyed it to be honest.
At first, and remembering the trailer, I thought it was going to be a bit of a comedy. Perhaps I had misremembered?
For me, the film was an uneasy mix....serious and ultimately lethal social complexities, alcoholism, childhood trauma etc. and then....sci-fi craziness on a grand scale. It was a completely bizarre concept and the idea for the sci-fi thread was the most bizarre I think.
Also, whether it was supposed to or not, it left me with negative thoughts about the boyfriend, he seemed a bit one dimensional when compared to the other characters. The main characters were very complex, but I never felt that we got to know all about them, which is ok. Also the younger guy that was a wet blanket - no guts at all!
The sci-if aspect didn’t get a major explanation anyway (for example, why Seoul? What kind of portal was going on? How did the kids not die from the lightening strikes? Etc.) but then I guess it wasn’t meant to because it really wasn’t about that.
Also, it wasn’t shown if anyone in the town thought it was strange that a few adults were hanging about (drunk and drinking and fighting!) and filming in a kids playground, near a school.
And.....what a mess, whatever happened to his body after that throw! Urgh!
