Prediction: Huge bomb

An overthought big monster movie, with stars. This'll make Ghostbusters look like a hit.

Stop to think about it. No, really, think about it. Who goes to see big monster movies? Guys! Now they're attempting to turn a big monster movie into a chick flick. And it's her neurosis that's controlling the monster. Big duhhh we already know our GF's turn into monsters at least a few days a month. We don't need to watch a movie about that! And no, chicks don't want to go watch Anne Hathaway remote control a monster, either.

That is way too low to set the bar. I will agree that it looks pretty bad, but Ghostbusters is a whole another level of low. Colossal seems to be more of a parody on the kaiju franchise more than actually trying to be serious where Ghostbusters...yeah we all know how that went.

Since we are talking about budget and franchises here, I think you mean Ghostbusters 2016 is a whole level of high. It had the budget of a blockbuster movie but not the brand awareness to go with it, which was how it failed. Colossal is a much cheaper movie and it already sold for way more than its production budget back in 2016.

It's a success already. It sold as an indie movie for about twice of it's production costs, so the investors have won back in September, the financial risk is with the distributor now. From all accounts, the artistic risk has paid off too, with only the direction getting some mixed reviews, which is fine. Just no fast food movie, it will find it's audience, over the year, years, decades maybe, not within three or four weeks.

Um, you do realize this is an indie film with an extremely low budget, right? How you're going to compare a Blockbuster film that cost over 100 m budget to an Indie film that only got made because Anne Hathaway put her own money onto the project for it to even be made.

Ghostbusters WAS a hit. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, on the other hand...

missing the point of the film entirely. clap! clap! clap!

Agreed. But I suspect 'quirky moster movie' is how it will be marketed and percieved and people won't go to see it. I think it's great but doesn't seem to have had a wide release - I saw it in an arts cinema in Cardiff.
