They did a good job casting people that resemble their real life counterparts. A lot of times casting in biopics they cast people who look nothing like the real person.

reply

Ruth does not look like Mildred. She is obviously mixed.

reply

For what it's worth Mildred Loving was mixed also. Mildred Loving was African American and Native American.
Obviously, no casting director can get actors who look identical to the people they're portraying but this cast is much better than other biopics.

reply

Mildred was African American and Native American? So she had a full blooded Native American parent? I doubt that.

I'm not even expecting someone who looks identical. Just that Ruth is too racially ambiguous looking for this role.

reply

I'm not sure where in her ancestry her Native American part is but everything I've read about her says she is African American and Native American.
I'm talking more about facial structure than skin tone. Negga has a similar facial structure to Loving. Mildred was a light skinned black woman anyways so I really think you are splitting hairs here.

reply

@MariMcCabe Guy, you're not fooling anybody. Just admit that you less concerned with how accurate Ruth looks to Mildred and more concerned with racial politics. The real reason you're against Ruth is because she didn't pass the racial purity test.

reply

You know how many Americans today have native American blood? She was black back then, she's black today, she didn't even want to be black. Whether you like it or not everyone is African, some of you just don't have melanin and won't be able to face the sun one day. Everything in the universe comes from blackness. Matter is everything.

reply

Your nonsensical comment fits your nonsensical nickname (hint: humans are a species, not a race).

Never argue with a Cultural Marxist. They never make sense and they never give up their racism.

reply

If you look at the trivia section for this movie it states that Mildred was half African American and half Native American on both her mother and father's side. So no, she didn't have one full blooded Native American parent, but she's still half Native American.

reply

Ruth does not look like Mildred? Are you kidding?

Mouth shape: same
Shape of eyes: same / very close (one picture not enough to tell)
Shape of face: same
Cheekbone structure: very similar
Complexion: seems very similar (hard to compare w/B&W in different lighting)

Oh wait...her eyebrows are different and chin's a small bit shorter.

For heaven's sake; Negga's a very close match. Which skilled actress do you think looks more like Mildred Loving?

reply

@rhewitt-334-794700 You couldn't be more right. I don't see how anyone in their right mind can say that Ruth looks nothing like Mildred.

Thank you so much, matrix25. The link goes to the most amazing video interviews and so much else. And don't you think it's amazing, that considering the role they played in the evolution of thought in the United States, their last name should be Loving?!!!

Please note that imdb is about to close these boards down (see their note at http://www.imdb.com/board/announcement). Last day to use the boards, apparently, is Feb 19, 2017. Terrible! Terrible! I don't want to have to go to social media to communicate about movies, actors, etc. I want to communicate right here!!

Do you know how to communicate to imdb about this? So far, I can't find a way. I know it won't make any difference, but I'd like to tell them how I feel about this!!!! These boards were wonderful; much better than any other venue I know of to communicate about films and everything related to them.
