Solid Adaptation

Solid Adaptation, in that it takes the plot of the short story and improves on it in many ways, while keeping the lead actress which was the best move of all.

I can't say the ending is an improvement though, it was a better ending with them having an understanding and going their separate ways. I think the tacked on ending actually ruined what they had going. I know they tried to go for a really creepy cool ending, but it just doesn't work, since it undermines all the work they'd put in earlier with him freeing her.

I definitely agree that keeping the lead actress was a HUGE pro, it was a very pleasant surprise for me to discover. 

Regarding the ending, I concur that it feels rather tacked on, however many horror movies have done this sort of thing in the past. Final Destination 3 has an ending of this type where the story would have felt more natural had it not included a surprise kill sequence in the end; in fact, the novelization of the film doesn't even have it. In the context of the story, I think they had SiREN end the way they did so it would be in keeping with the style of the short it is based on.

On a more realistic note, while I think omitting the last sequence would have given the film closure, it would also have been surprising to me if Lily never returned to Jonah at some point in the future; considering that her kind mates for life, it would have been inevitable that she would eventually return to him.

Good point about the mating for life... even though it does seem she transcends that idea, when she lets him go earlier in the film, it isn't surprising that she shows up eventually out of instinctive drive.
