Do you think Rebecca Hall will get an Oscar Nomination?

Or will she be snubbed?

reply

I hope she will!

'SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL?!?'

reply

I hope she will too but it's an incredibly tough year in that category, and none of the "experts" at goldderby.com have her in the running...yet.

Unfortunately, she won't. The film has a tepid reception and lacks buzz. It's going to be another indie film with a great performance overlooked in favor of more overtly baity fare. The Best Actress category is incredibly stacked, even with Viola Davis having moved to supporting.

reply

UGH! Now in a further travesty, she's been snubbed by the Spirit Awards: the one award nomination she should've been able to rely upon! Pity. Maybe a critics group will throw her a bone so she gets a little appreciation this season.

reply

What a complete joke.

reply

I think she will. Not only because her performance is great, but also because the character she does is a journalist, and many journalists are parts of the Academy voters who get to vote on nominations, and can relate to her story.

reply

That's all well and good, but that has nothing to do with momentum and Oscar campaigning politics. Right now, the race is SO stacked, that Hall would be lucky to make it in a category that has 5-10 slots a la Best Picture. Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Isabelle Huppert, Annette Bening, Ruth Negga, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams....The list goes on and on. But, I wish she did have a chance. I truly do. It's a shame. Maybe the Golden Globes will give us a surprise. Sometimes they do that, especially since half of the Best Actress contenders this year are from Comedy/Musical categorized films....Maybe Hall can sneak in Drama as a 5th nominee!

FYC: Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea.

reply

She was the runner-up for the LAFCA awards voting today. So that's something! It'll be a notch on IMDb at least.

FYC: Rebecca Hall, Christine.

She'll be likely snubbed. Partly because there's only so many nominees allowed and going off that and leading to my main suspicion why she won't be nominated, is because she's not exactly on the same level of recognition and popularity. Like this year we have Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, and Viola Davis all being considered. And all of them are repeat nominees.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

I hope so. While the big name awards have virtually ignored Hall, she has been popping up frequently in the critics awards (though usually as just a nomination). In recent years Laura Dern, Michael Shannon and Tommy Lee Jones missed out on the Globes, Critics' Choice, SAG, BAFTAs, and even the Spirits but managed to stay afloat due to support from the Critics Association Awards. And hey, Hall just won one of those awards, so maybe that'll grab their attention.

The only real locks for Best Actress right now are Portman, Stone and Huppert, and while many think Adams and Bening will fill the last two spots, my money's on Negga and Hall.

I agree with you smcgann14 , there is still a chance as the Oscars do throw a few surprises every year. I think she may get a BAFTA nomination being a Brit which could strengthen her chances for an Academy nomination. The problem is that the best Actress category is so strong, and probably the most hotly contested category this year. I think Natalie Portman is a great actress but I don't think she deserves 2 Oscar nods, she is not in the same league as Hilary Swank, Meryl Streep etc, I haven't seen Jackie but I thought she was overrated in Black Swan. It would be great if Rebecca gets the recognition she deserves, just watching the trailer gave me goosebumps

reply

She deserves a nomination but likely won't get one, and though I agree with you about Natalie Portman in general, in Jackie, she's tremendous.

It's very close for me as far as Rebecca vs Natalie is concerned. Both give two of the best performances of the year.

reply

I don't think so. Meryl Streep will be out as well.

reply

Has missed out on a BAFTA nom..... I think the ship has sailed unfortunately :( Even Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga have been snubbed by BAFTA!!!

Brie Larson won an Oscar in an indie film last year. I was hoping Rebecca would do the same with Christine this year. But it doesn't look like it. What a shame, since I would argue Rebecca's performance was even better.

I wonder if the producers and distributors just didn't get behind Christine for some reason. Room had A24 behind it. I have never even heard of distributors The Orchard or Curzon Artificial Eye.
