did anyone witness?

theres gotta be someone on imdb who happened to be watching tv the morning she committed suicide. I would love to hear some one tell their memory of it.

I think your chances are better off finding someone on IMDB who is the child of a parent who witnessed the shooting on television. For example, both my parents lived in the Tampa Bay area in 1974, my dad being 19 and my mother 17 at that time, and could have very well watched the tragic broadcast. I asked both of them if they remembered this news story and they did not. Also, I know for a fact my parents are not on IMDB as with a majority of people that age. Not all of course, but I would bet the percentage of IMDB users above the age of 55 is probably less than 50%. With such a small percentage of them on IMDB, and the fact that the Tampa Bay media market in 1974 was very small, I would be surprised if an actual legitimate witness would come across this post.

yea, I know its a long shot.. but I figured its still worth a try. I find it really strange that I cant find one account of anyone who saw this when it happened. and I don't mean here on imdb... but ive searched all over the internet. it seems the only people who saw it were the people in the studio when it happened... but I know that cant be possible.. there has to be at least a small handful of people out there who happened to be watching that morning. can you imagine how shocking that would be?

reply

You can find newspaper articles on Google around the time the incident took place and there is witness testimony there.

really? that's interesting. I been looking with no luck at all. could you send a link or 2 by any chance? if its not too much trouble I would really appreciate it.

The woman who wrote this article claimed to have seen it multiple times while in Sarasota writing a story about Christine:

I certainly did not witness this event live. But I have a vague memory as if I have seen the clip of the suicide somewhere (a clip of a female reporter shooting herself in the head in front of a camera while doing some reporting). I know, Wikipedia says that the suicide clip has never been shown after its initial broadcast. So, what I saw was probably something else. But what, I don't know.

Im guessing this is one of the reasons live broadcasts have like a 12sec delay or something like that.

Yep.

I've always been interested in this kind of stuff and read about Christine a while back and when I was looking for the actual footage I think I came across some article that said they destroyed the tape in respect of the family. So no one could see it or something like that...

reply

Allegedly the tape exists and is on the internet, cause her brother (i think?) says he has a recording of it and from what I've read you can see it online, though I suppose people here are more looking for people who saw it and not the actual tape. I certainly don't want to see it myself but thought I'd mention it.

reply

I wonder how many children saw it...
