Unlikeable People

With the exception of a few characters, (The Barista who wants to be a 'good dad' among them) mostly all of these people are completely unlikeable. They have zero people skills, they are arrogant and can't seem to know how to be humble and connect with others. It really was STUNNING to see how people like these feel so entitled in their words and actions. The lack of connection skills is so massive, that the female lead actually says that 'seeing others in the eyes', or 'asking questions' will help them win points. So doing basic communication skills is now considered a bonus. As for Charles Babinski asking why he always came in second? ANSWER: His arrogance! Only until 4-5 years of loses made him humble did the judges gave him the prize.

Being 29 years old myself, it feels like a sad portrait of my generation of older 'millennials'.

Interesting.
I came here to consider renting it (it's the movie of the week on Itunes for 0.99)
Other than the characters, is it interesting? I enjoy everything about coffee, and seems an interesting documentary..do you think it's wort it? or just too focused on the contestants life and/or personalities? how much is it about "making the perfect coffee? thanks...

reply

Yes, for $0.99 it is worth it. It is interesting to learn about this coffee subculture.

thanks. Renting it.

Did you get all that from the documentary or do you know some of them? Because that didn't come across to me. What I saw were people working hard at their craft which doesn't pay much. They all seemed pretty self aware about how focusing on barista as a career might seem strange to other people. How are they entitled?

That’s a pretty harsh assessment. Maybe a couple of them didn’t come across as winning salesmen, but I’ve never thought of “baristas” as being incredibly social people anyway. They’re often far too busy to offer more than a “Have a nice day!” anway. To call these characters “completely unlikable” is ridiculous. Have you been interviewed and followed for a documentary before? Or performed in a competition that’s being filmed? These five at least had enough “people skills” to make it to the national competition, so goodness knows what you’d think of the 900 or so that didn’t qualify.
