I want to like this so bad.

So I finally sat down and watch the released 7 episodes and I've never really had so many mixed feelings about a show before.

I like the idea of The Muppets running a late night talk show, and I like the Office style of filming. Those are additions that are new but fit with the weird surrealism disguised as realism The Muppets always had. Some of the jokes are bulls-eyes as well. The Karaoke Night scene and Scooter almost destroying the show just by turning on the air conditioner are classic Muppet scenarios.

But things like Fozzie get shot up with tranquilizers, and Gonzo's blind date getting snatch up by a celebrity guest star should be funny but aren't. They're scenarios that we've kind of seen before in sitcoms like this and just feel like the show is running through the motions or playing it too by the book.

I don't really have a problem with the show being more for adults. For the most part the jokes get a laugh. Besides, Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Jim Henson always want the Muppets to appeal to more adult audiences? Wasn't that the point of creating the Muppets, so the adults had something to watch while the kids watched Seaseme Street.

I don't know, should I like it or hate. I can't decide.

Correct. The question is whether this show really succeeds at being adult humor.

For you, what was the last acceptable Muppet project?

There's no place for truth on the internet!

Muppets from Space. There were a lot of fast and subtle jokes like Gonzo coming out as an alien.

I couldn't watch this series after the first episode. It wasn't funny. It wasn't charming. As I said in another thread, it's like they got a script for live action and someone thought it would be a great and different idea to use muppets in place of actors. And it's a hot mess. There is nothing delightful or witty about it.

The two most recent Muppets films, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, were vastly superior to Muppets from Soace, which I did enjoy. In fact, imho, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted are the best things the Muppets have been involved in since the 80's...
