People have never respected puppets!

Am I wrong to say, generally speaking, adults have never appreciated puppets as an acceptable form of entertainment? It is assumed to be for kids, unless it is hardcore offensive like Family Guy. Give this to Seth and his audience will have better turn out then the Cleveland show. But it wouldn't be the Muppets we know. How can they make a comeback if they can't be taken seriously as a form of prime time entertainment?
