They didn’t have to do that..

Harry didn’t have to come back, but I’m glad he did. Also, Merlin didn’t have to die for that ending. Its was so unnecessary.

Merlin will probably come back for the third movie and they'lll make a joke/gag/gadget out of the situation...

I don't know for sure, as I probably won't watch it... Too much cowboy for me... All hat and no cattle... ;)

yeah him coming back creates several plotholes in the first movie, i.e. why is there a lack of attempt to recover his body. why didnt the Statesmen get involved? if they could detect that abnormal signal they should also know about Valentine as he plan to destroy the world.

Agreed. They made a lot of several strange choices. Harry's return ultimately worked for me. But killing off Merlin and Roxy was a strange choice. Also expanding Tilde's role/marrying her felt extraneous. Small nitpick, but impeaching a president wouldn't see him in handcuffs till he's convicted in the senate. That was silly. But sillier than that is that his failure to negotiate with Poppy is not a criminal act. And I didn't understand why Tequila ended up in a bowler overseeing the tailor's shop.

Overall I liked it more than I thought I would given the polarizing reaction.

I completely agree. Roxy's death was unexpected because why keep her from the start if you're just going to kill her off so quickly? But Merlin's death felt very unnecessary to me because he shouldn't have been in the field in the first place. Not going to lie, Tilde's role annoyed me in this one. And finally, I really wanted to see Tequila in action but he was basically unconscious for the majority of the film which was disappointing.

Roxy too. It was pointless. Hope she comes back for the third one somehow.
