Finally saw it!

I am a big fan of Xavier Dolan, but I have to say I did not like the film. Back in the day, I went on IMDB to criticise his Tom at the Farm, and now I can add It's Only the End of the World to the list of Dolan films I don't like.

Sure, the acting was good in the film, but is it interesting enough for someone to spend their money on? Nope. Not by far. I found it boring, and cringeworthy at times. Just like Tom at the Farm, it is also an adaptation of a play, penned by somebody else, not Dolan, and that is the crux of the matter: I don't sense they belong in Dolan's repertoire. It's like they've paid him to film a tv ad, and sure, he's does it, it looks okay, but it's not 'Dolan', if you know what I mean. These two adaptations of plays are just not interesting enough. For example, Mommy or any other self-penned Dolan film, are more interesting, cinematic and watchable.

I'm looking forward to The Life and Death of John F. Donovan, written and directed by Dolan, and I'm sure it will be a film much more worthy of our time and money, and that will no doubt belong in his repetoire.

And if anyone wants to know why I didn't like the film, the main reason is because I felt it 'lacked' something. You can tell it was penned for a play, and not for film. Apart from that, it was BORING.

Also I did not care for the protagonist at all. So he's dying and I don't care, like why should I? Maybe we're not meant to feel sorry for him but for his family, but nope, I didn't care for them either. Also the dialogue didn't seem real to me. People just wouldn't talk like that to each other, so it was not at all realistic. To top it all, the ending, with the little bird dead in the carpet, well that just made me roll my eyes. Like, seriously?

I'll give it a 6/10 mainly for the acting. Vincent Cassel was great, as usual.
