The real "con" of "Con Man" is...

After finally getting around to watching "Con Man", the real "con" of the title is how Alan Tudyk got thousands of his fans to fund a web series all about how he thinks they are a bunch of annoying pathetic losers. I haven't seen "geek blackface" this bad since I used to watch "The Big Bang Theory". I feel bad for all the fans who donated to the Kickstarter thinking they'd end up with something like The Guild that lets geeks be part of the joke instead of just being the butt of the joke. I think I'll skip the paid meet-and-greet with Alan Tudyk at the next convention.

I really don't think that he was making fun of his audience, at least not any more than he was himself. I think it was actually pretty fair and even handed. If anybody was the butt of the joke in this show, it was Tudyk. I think the guy can laugh at himself.

reply

Ironic. You are "that guy".

Clearly. And 'that guy' always deserves every bit of ridicule that 'he' gets. Meanwhile, the rest of us geeks - who are all secure enough to laugh at ourselves and the things we love, without getting offended, or taking everything overly serious all the time - are doing just fine. And have no issue at all with projects such as this one, just as long as they manage to deliver on the laughs and entertainment factor.

He's actually even harder on himself. It does show the obsessed off center fans, but let's be real, some of them are pretty odd sad sacks. But he is even harder on himself. Does not come off as the smartest guy and is quit selfish. Humor is dark and silly. Love it.

People that cannot see past the portrayal of the loonie fan have missed the whole point and humor of the show so badly it's sad.
