Dirty Back Window

I thought Car Share was a brillient comedy.

Am I the only one whoe noticed his car was always highly polished and clean, and yet his back window was always dirty.

Yet when the camera switched to the outside view it was very often clean.

Do you think they were trying to hide the traffic behind or something?

reply

I certainly noticed that.

It would have been for continuity reasons, to make the edits less obvious. Also, because the car was towed whilst they filmed the interior shots they may have been more obvious with a clear window.

The issue was most disconcerting when they came out of the car wash and it was still dirty.

reply

Well at first I thought they were towed also, but I am thinking maybe it was all filmed in the studio with a green screen.

Remember the last episode where they went into that dream sequence the outside just changed. That was definately green screen.

They use green screen all the time in movies, but usually you can tell.

If it is green screen they did a good job.

I think this there was very little, if any, green screen outside of those dream sequences.

Just before the scene change you refer to the sunlight coming into the car onto John's suit and the back seat is definitely real.

The transition to the dream sequence was done by applying the effects to the footage, not green screen.

If you've seen the photo of multi-camera rig they fitted to the car (they chose the Fiat because of the space it has) you'll see they didn't use green screen. If you did all the filming in a studio you'd use a fake car with the front cut off which wouldn't require that rig.

It was definitely a filming rig in a moving (towed) vehicle. Not sure if this link is allowed here but here goes, https://www.imgur.com/r/woahdude/vTSqzKf

Loved this sitcom, but also noticed that the rear window was always dirty, even after going through the car wash.

My theory is that it was done to hide the crew van that may be following the vehicle and/or also for continuity to disguise the vehicle behind which may change frequently between shots.

Hi Andy,

I didn't think they would need a crew following them. You see in most films the shots of the outside of the car would be filmed separately and not driven by the actors in the program. Also seeing the camera rig you would probably have at least 2 cars, as in some shots you would see the rig.

reply

It's filmed whist driving as serious two can't be filmed until the summer as they need the sunlight whilst filming. Not sure if towed or not.

The dirty window is annoying but I assume they try and record the in car stuff together then the outside stuff at a later date. Not episode by episode

reply

Series two not serious two lol
