Pointless nudity
This show has the most pointless nude scenes. At first I figured they were setting the tone for the show, but nope, just inexplicably in there for some reason.

People get naked and have sex. A lot. In real life. Some of it is shown on TV, because it's exactly as ordinary as eating food or wearing clothes or walking around talking to other people. The horror!
I have no problem with nudity on tv, but this just seemed really out of place.

Why must that be in any film as it would be illegal if the actors were really teens? Instead it's virtual kiddy porn since they aren't.
Pretending teenagers don't have sex serves nobody and sometimes nudity helps set the tone or the world the story is set in. This isn't suppose to be about the merit of nudity in film, I just think that this particular nudity is out of place.

It is illegal for teens to take nude photos of each other and they will get prosecuted for child porn if they do. That's serious stuff and showing simulated nude teens having sex is pretty extreme in a movie.

No it isn't, but I know what you are trying to get at.
It is illegal for underage teens (i.e. children) to take nude photos. 18 and 19 year olds are still teens but are also adults (in the country we are talking about here) and it is perfectly legal for them to take photos. Just like in certain US states and in the UK, it is legal for 16 and 17 year olds to have sex, even though they are still considered children.
If the portrayed teens are underage in the show then the actors will have to be 18 or over to be nude. share

Then maybe we shouldn't show violence cause that's illegal in real life too. Ohh how about rape and mental abuse. Pretty sure that's frowned upon. Drug taking and theft. Guess we should take that out of movies also. Profanity discrimination also?

I agree wholeheartedly. I find it a lot in cable/ streaming -great shows that throw in a bit of "highly-inappropriate" sex, seemingly just to show "hey, we're hip -stick around, you might see more!"
Again, like the OP, I'm not against sex, etc. being depicted, but having watched only episode 1 to date (and liking it on the whole) I'm a bit annoyed that because of 2 minutes in the 1hour+ show, it proved highly embarrassing that I had suggested to my 15 and 11 year olds to watch it with me. Nothing in anything I had heard suggested this kind of thing -and on the whole, as I said, it did prove to be something we all otherwise enjoyed.
Netflix badly needs some kind of rating system at the very least.
...Can anyone offer any guidance on this (or a link) ...does the rest of the series contain scenes that are as "wildly out of place" all of a sudden -or was it just sticking that into episode 1 in order to keep interest up for those who need it?
(I'm not giving any moral judgements here -just wondering if I can watch the rest with the kids ...apart from that stupid sex scene/ with oral sex & "discussion" on it, I can just about live with the amount of inappropriate bad language.)

I work in psych and used to work with sex offenders. There's real people in someone's dungeon not, probably a lot of people. I don't find that a subject for light entertainment and it makes me angry. Kids watching that, I don't know.

Have you consider not watching those programs you find offensive? Also consider, not trying to dictate to others what they should or should not like?

shareI don't give a *beep* about a ratings system. If you have kiddies then watch just the first pilot and see, you will get the tone. I still wouldn't stand in front of a window naked after having sex in a neighborhood staring out of a window, so maybe the poster has a point on that one.
Is a joke, just showing the character and his recklessness. I thought Netflix did the MA warnings or maybe it's was Hulu. Get them mixed up sometimes.
