If her story isn't real, how did she recover her....(SPOILER)

...sight?

reply

She very well could have recovered her site in the same way. Some aspects of the story may be real.

Yes, I guess they just want to make it ambivalent. There's enough there for those who think it's real to believe it is, and the other way around too.

But it would be silly to make a whole series about a manipulator. Considering the makers past films, I'm going for the premise that it all actually did happen, but that it is all unprovable. I think the makers said that there is an element of Faith that comes into practice in the film....you have to 'believe' for it to be so. And that's what the 'group' do in the end, they' believe' and so it 'is'. Remember we are talking about different dimensions here, nothing tangible and provable.

I think the FBI agent planted those books btw.

Hey guys,

I think her story is 100% real. But your comment made me wonder. Can you refresh my memory on the facts that make it easy for viewers to believe it's false? Apart from the books under her bed, the books are all I remember as a clue on this aspect. Thanks

reply

Well I can't remember exactly, but I think she was diagnosed with post-traumatic disorder or schizophrenia or something like that, or both, after she was adopted.

I don't believe that she is, but that's kind of put there for those who do not believe in parallel worlds etc. I'm quite open minded, so think anything is possible so I guess I'm a 'believer'. lol.

Can't wait for Season 2. I'm a big Brit Marlin fan. Love everything she has produced and starred in so far.

Hey guys, I'm glad The OA showed up on "Trending" cause I've never heard of this show before, and now I wanna watch it. This looks like my kind of show. Supernatural + SF, what's not to like? 👍

reply

Yes go for it. You can binge watch the whole season. It's really intriguing.

The most incriminating clue that her story isn't real are those books. But...

When Alfonso discovers them, he just happens to bump into Riz Ahmed in the house in the middle of the night. What was FBI agent doing there at this hour? I suspect he was planting those books to make OA look like a liar. The books were brand new. If OA studied them, they would've been worn out more. Did she even know how to read normal letters and not just braille? If Riz planted the books, then FBI knows more about parallel realities than we think. (interesting thought is that in the second season this could turn into Fringe-esque story)

Another possibility is that Hap and his group traveled through realities back into this reality, and into OA's room and planted the books there. I don't even know how this would function, but maybe they found a way to do it. This is just a thought, it probably didn't happen this way but you never know. I suspect everyone lol

reply

Yep I think the general consensus is that Riz Ahmed planted the books.....but I like your other possibility, that Hap travelled into this reality and planted it. I mean, he did know about the movement, so it's very possible. Good one!

By the way, did you enjoy the series?

reply

Yeah, I liked it very much. Brit Marling is excellent in it, and so is the rest of the cast.

I seriously think that it was wrapped up nicely. We didn't get all the answers, but then again, this is the kind of series that doesn't need to give viewers all the answers. But if they insist, I'm not complaining that there's gonna be a second season :)

reply

Yeah, I would have been happy either way if it had ended there or not. For me, she did reach another dimension thanks to the group doing the five movements and believing in them, whilst at the same time diverting a school massacre.

But yeah, bring on Season 2! I want to see where the hell IS Homer, and how the 'group' are doing now. I hope the teacher gets her job back! lol.

reply

Come to think of it, the existence of 2nd season is proof enough that she didn't make it all up. Otherwise the 2nd season wouldn't be necessary.

reply

If Riz A planted the books, perhaps his motives were pure, as in he is protecting her in some way. I feel his character is good, not bad, but perhaps he knew that they all needed to be in the canteen at that point in time. It was all meant to happen when it did - if they'd performed the dance earlier then she would have NDE'd at the wrong time, and more people would have died by the gunman's hand.

This might be a popular theory already, I literally only just finished watching the series.

reply

If Riz planted the books it was probably under the order of FBI. I doubt he acted alone.

Interesting series, isn't it?

In the meantime some people pointed out that when OA first had a chance to log on internet, the first thing she did was to search for Homer (his football video). That was before she ever had a chance to order books online, let alone read them. This is supposed to be the proof that she didn't make the whole thing up.
