StarTalk

Great great jewel of a show this is... the first episode especially if you are a Star Trek fan.

yea its a good show. just wished he wouldnt interrupt his co host so much.

reply

As much as I love science shows, it isn't actually that good.

Two major issues:

1. The comedians just like startalk radio ruin the experience with the constant lame jokes and take away from scientists.
2. Why are we introducing each other 5 or so times after every commercial?

i agree with both points.

reply

That's right. I like Neil a lot, but he must stop interrupting constantly and let his guests talk. It's so annoying to watch and hear that I might have to stop watching the show altogether.

I watched only that episode with guest George Takei and it seemed to be a very good show---that is, until deGrasse Tyson brought up Takei's terrible experience being incarcerated as a child during WWII and deGrasse Tyson states, quite emphatically, I should add, that there were NO Italians or Germans interred at that time, to which Takei agreed. It is a fact that approximately 1,800 Italians and 10,300 Germans were arrested and put into internment camps in the US. Now, how on earth can someone as intelligent as deGrasse Tyson be ignorant to this historic fact?! Could be that he and Takei have an agenda to put forward by ignoring this fact. I haven't watched any other episode besides that one, because, sorry to say, it has lost all credibility with me.

Neil is entertaining when doing a monologue but anytime I've seen him interact with others it's pretty clear he's a narcissist ego maniac. Also if you haven't picked up on it hugely liberal. That combination suites a special agenda that proclaims to be about facts "science" if you will but conveniently forgets them when they become burdensome.

There's no need for this kind of a "format" - including the screaming audience & grotesque clapping when the sign comes on (I imagine; AND they edit-in most of it). They wanna bring it to a broader audience, I guess, but it's a little bit -too- annoying for the rest of us... Ah, well. =)

Edit: Although (hm), I suppose it's possible that he's really a disturbed individual IRL - however, we can argue that it's necessary (what else can drive a genius mind, if they're missing the fundamentals - such as religious beliefs; which many great minds had, such as Nikola Tesla :))

P.S. One will work for the fortune and fame & the other, for the betterment of humanity; but, the end result will be the same... So, it's all good if you ask me... Maybe that's how I can justify it. Science, right?! (Hehe)

First, I like Neal so don't get me wrong. However he has major communication issues. First as has already been mentioned is he interupts a lot, finishing guests' sentences when there is any sort of pause. His questions are very leading in that he will give several answers that he has already thought of. Then when they do answer he feels the need to reiterate their answer in his own words.
Neal, we all know you're intelligent you have nothing to prove. Hopefully he is being critiqued so he can have the chance to improve.

BTW I created this account just to post this in hopes it may get back to him.

Neal's mind simply goes faster than some other people's minds. Gotta love him.
