Make it more ambiguous why he's betraying them

It should have been cloaked in secrecy. No shown meeting with Theron in Cuba. Everything status quo. Then he turns on The Rock and it's a huge shock. The whole movie we really don't know what's going on until the very end.

Also the reason behind he had a kid? For a kid he was willing to steel EMPs and nuclear codes? Uhh

I didn't like how quick/easy it was to turn on the others. I believe he didn't even know he had a son until it was revealed to the audience that Cipher had Elena and the son, so he didn't have something fully to motivate him. He just had the conversation between him and Cipher. Not sure what he was looking at on the phone Cipher handed him when she told him he would have to betray the team. He looked like he didn't know he had turned on the team to save Elena and his son until the audience learned what it was she had on him and why she was making him turn. I'm guessing that Cipher just had pics of how they connected throughout the previous movies because of how he reacted on the plane to Elena and his son.

They should've actually shown the mission when they were stealing the EMP. Then we could've seen the struggle Dom was having with himself to betray the team/family. But he made it seem so simple. And it wasn't a shocking twist either since he already had the conversation with Cipher earlier so we knew it was coming. But it would've been nice to see what he was going through during the actual mission. Would've liked to seen him asking himself if he really wanted to turn on the others. But it just jumps to them escaping with the EMP and BAM he turns. He couldn't even whisper (while looking away from Hobbs to not let Hobbs know) "I'm sorry" before ramming Hobbs. So maybe during the actual mission it finally came to him that he would've went through it. Even when Hobbs called him before the mission, he didn't seem like he was going to go through with it. So yeah. They could've built his turn better.

I'm new to the series so I don't know the characters all that well but perhaps the writer did add a scene that shows Dom struggling with his decision to turn on his peers because that would have made Dom a weak hero. I think for Dom, the choice was a no brainer. He had no choice other than to do what Cypher wanted him to. And then when Dom caused the death of Elena, Dom needed a new mother for his son, que Letty and her guilt trip. The hero has to do what he has to do. Right?
