Why can't there be nice kids movies?

Angry scary wolves, angry scary storks, friends who constantly yell at each other.

I get we accept this in movies as adults, but why must there be so many frightening scenes with mean and angry characters for the kids to see?

...and before some of you lose your bowels, I'm not looking for a total bleaching of kids movies where we devolve down to the teletubbies, I'm just saying so much of this movie could have been taken with a different spin and had all the frightening images done with a different view.

I just don't understand it.

I don't quite understand how this movie isn't nice?

The wolves were humorous, the two main characters learn to get along despite their differences, the parents learn to spend more time with their little boy, and families who wanted babies get babies and are happy. I don't understand what isn't nice about that.

It's stupid, annoying and irritating... I don't like it at all.
And I love computer animated movies. But not this one (despite the excellent technical quality, the problem is that the movie only has this, the script and the dialogues are really, really bad!)

I couldn't agree more, as we just walked out of the movie an hour ago. It seems to be a running theme as we felt the same about The Good Dinosaur and will be avoiding most of what's set to come out in the next few months. The animation has become dizzying with characters never having any quiet or reflective moments.

I do love the Hotel Transylvania movies because the characters are endearing and funny. We would love to see more like that!

I wish i'd done this, I had such a headache coming out from this. It's just go go go and not in a good way. It was like all the characters had manic depression, and the creators were jacked up on coffee the whole time. aha. didn't deserve my money

I don't know - trying to prepare kids for the adversity and negativity that they will face in the real world every day? I have a little niece and I'd rather she understand that the world can't always be a wonderful happy place 100% of the time.

Almost exactly what I was going to say here 

My bowels are in check, but I'm not sure that yours are. Politely remove your bosom from your five year old's mouth and try to realize that this is a scary, unpredictable world that they live in.

And to the user who mentioned that there aren't enough 'reflective' moments in children's movies, I'm not sure what you were expecting. Try 'Schindler's List' next time, or avoid the cinema period. Sounds like family yoga would be a more useful, quality outing for your family.

This is like asking why does there have to be conflict in stories. Can't everyone just get a long? The answer is because you would have no story. Conflict drives the plot.

And animated films are also aimed at and are enjoyed by adults (especially modern animated films) so the sensibilities of the films are actually matching their ratings (general audiences and Parental Guidance).

That being said, this movie was about as scary as an episode of Looney Tunes.
