You could tell the creator of this series was a L fan, and really didn't like Light all that much.
I normally love Ryuk, but I hated him in this series.

the theme of "absolute power corrupts absolutely" is very thick in this one.
People tweeting on the internet are loving Kira, but when he gives his final speech in front of all those cops, everyone's just terrified of what a scary lunatic he is. Yet people who have watched the whole show will still sympathize with him and even hope that he kills everyone and gets away with it.
Yeah, I also quite liked the show. They changed some things from the earlier installments, so even people who enjoyed the manga, anime, or movies will feel some suspense.
They should really make another new series like they did with this one, but have Light win in the end. That way both sides of the fans get the series and ending they always wanted.
I personally think having Light winning in the end would be a great and interesting way to end the series.

Hey, you could say that Light wins in the end. Sure, he dies, but will the legend of Kira die with him?
The police will announce that they caught Kira, then crime rates go up again, and people will start lamenting how much better off they were with Kira. At the same time, Ryuk will go back to Limbo and tell all his bored reaper buddies how hilarious it was when he let a human borrow his note.
