More movies with these elements...

We need more settings following this line where people push boundaries between man and machine, mixing espionage, conspiracy, power and money and morality, the whole technology X humanity showing the impact it causes at every layer of society.

All thematic and elements from series like Deus Ex for example, is amazing for movies, the more action packed the better!

Posting to foment demand, as producers can hopefully get inspired into making more intriguing themes and less from the next lame as hell picture (Paranormal Bullshivity latest sequels come to mind).

MUST SEE videos from the theme: (Specially the first one in full)

There is no audience for it. We who like this genre are in minority. current hollywood is not interested in art, just maximizing cash.

I both agree and disagree. Notice that I'm not refering to Deus Ex universe in specific (that would be a bit boring and restrictive, and for no good reason), but instead most of these elements combined, they pack a lot of potential for good storylines, and ones that don't look all that far fetched, about our near future.

Agree because its kinda true, very few people are going to watch something only because it falls into this niche category, specially if the movie/material is not A+ quality or poorly marketed.

Disagree because there are many themes that could be considered the same, however good story/script and execution have, constantly, made the subject enter "peoples radar" and the public eye became more aware and receptive of it.
Also its a subject that can become reality in a few decades, but most people are unaware of the situation as a whole, all the ups and downs involved.

Ya know why old movies were 'masterpieces'? Cuz they treated stupid subjects with all seriousness. Nowadays stupid is stupid.

Even the recent television series Almost Human and Extant didn't last long, so I wholeheartedly concur. I do believe, however, that Continuum is still in production and doing alright, but it has the added bonus of time travel into the past, which may detract from the potential cyberpunk elements.

I agree, but like the only other response says, it's a niche audience.

Personally, what I'd like to see is something that covers the merging of man and machine, but that also asks why we do this and that leads into the creation of artificial intelligence and the creator/creation relationship as it pertains to that. It's all connected when you really think about it. Something that leads into talking about "The Singularity" and transhumanist concepts.

"Once you assume a creator and a plan, it makes us objects in an experiment." - Christopher Hitchens

Yes, you may want to read the reply I made to the previous poster too.

AI and the singularity are quite interesting as well, but for both possibility and practicality its a subject much farther away into the future. Producers are focusing it now and then, like for example Ex Machina last year, wich apparently was well received.

The questioning on the why we (as humans) would delve into these areas? Two reasons strike as the most likely:

1- The obvious advantages. To give an example of our day and age, theres currently a massive (and growing) part of the population that makes regular use of drugs and medications. While they employ that to feel better or just "normal", there is a near endless field/market and application for "enhancing substances", take athletes as a known practice.

(Or how movie stars/performers use techniques to quickly gain and lose body mass, this would be seen as TABOO some 30 or 50 years back).

Still, people have to go alongside "public opinion", taking care to stay under an optimistic, benevolent gaze, thus R&D goes slower than it otherwise could.
The field of prosthetics/pharmaceutical/chemical enhancing therapy is likely entryway by wich technological integration is going to slowly come.

2- "Because we can", as was said im Prometheus :)

It comes a time when we've garnered enough knowledge/resources about a subject that it becomes "childs play", and someone(s) is going to "create something" just because they can. That is an inherent evil with free will (freedom of choice and human nature), the coin has its wilder side too.

I went here thinking someone could recommend a movie that touch on interested themes from Deus Ex games particularly the new one.

I don't agree though that it would be possible to make a movie of it, it would be both expensive and require good talent but it's doable. Conspiracy, money and power always sell. Throw in some subtle morality, philosophy and politics coupled with some sex, explosions, discrimination and you have a great package for a Hollywood blockbuster.

In fact, now is the right time to actually go for it. Corporate alliances are taking over, technology is growing, politics is always enticing if it touches on contemporary issues like transhumanism or any kind of discrimination. Can even cover the whole main character as a super hero, detective, defender-of-mankind assassin. Morality or philosophy might not sell that well to the general public but you could still include a part of it to make these issues more transparent and open to public debate.
