Mercy Street = M.A.S.H.

The other day it hit me that this show has some themes/characters similar to M.A.S.H.

They are a hospital in "hostile" territory, although surrounded by some friendly locals. It isn't Korea but the Southern U.S. Both taking place during times of war.
A somewhat bumbling Henry Blake type (Dr. Summers)
An emotionally stressed lead doctor like Hawkeye. (Dr. Foster...he has drugs, Dr. Pierce mental illness)
Hot Lips and Frank Burns always plotting against the head doctor and his colleague (Anne Hastings and Dr. Hale).

Nurse Mary could either be Trapper or B.J., except I figure in this case "Hawkeye" is going to end up involved with this "Trapper." Mary and Dr. Foster, that is.

Anyone see any other similarities? Interesting to think about...

All the best!

The main opposing belligerents were the northern and southern halves of what had been a single nation.

It doesn't have the dark humor to truly be MASH. It's really just a take your pick of medical drama set in the Civil War.

Yes I thought the same especially the colonel Blake major hoolihan parallel

I noticed the Burns/Hoolihan similarities to Hale/Hastings.

Nurse Mary reminds me of another nurse - Jenny Lee from Call the Midwife.

I also really like the addition of Patina Miller.
