racism pretty much sums that up by people in the Imdb community because it is user driven

What? You can't just assume that people are racist just because they gave this a low grade

You bet your ass he can. SL hates on the white man, the white man hates on SL. Or do you think it's by chance that his latest work has been met with mixed to sometimes positive reviews from critics while it's constantly being trashed on IMDB? I strongly believe the down votes happen because SL himself tends to be racist whenever he can; he suffers from the same condition a lot of other celebrities suffer: not being able to keep their mouths shut in regards to pretty much every single aspect of today, whether its politics, social stances on whatever, race, equality, etc. And you really can't blame people from being tired of him. I do not have that problem because I'm one of those who can keep things separated: I judge his films based on their merits, if I like them, fine, if I don't, fine too. On the other hand, I do not like SL the person because of the aforementioned reasons. People who thrive on conflict or insist on picking fights whenever they have the chance, cannot blame others but themselves in the way they are seen in the public eye, which as we all know, is judgmental. Down voting is one of the easiest ways of voicing their discontent. It's the way it is.

An assumption is based on pretty much no factual evidence. You can pretty much look at any more recent black films on IMDB's message boards and ratings and see pretty clearly it is racism. I don't know why white people get so damn defensive about racism. It is racism. Deal with it.

reply

So if somebody watch this and give it a bad review, he or she are automaticaly racists? All of them? This is generalization.

You're a moron and beyond comprehension of any kind.

reply

Wtf dude? I'm not saying that there are no racists voting this down, I'm just saying that not everyone who gave this a low grade is automatically a racist

What about this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1046997/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_19

A Spike Lee movie that recieved a low rating from the critics, and a much higher rating from the viewers

"Set in 1944 Italy, the story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII."

i believe its the opposite, I believe its african american people who are downgrading the film because just looking at the trailer I believe it sounds degrading to the african americans , i'm white but i was born and raised in a black community and I think representing the black race as sex-driven maniacs is racist, it shows chicago and the people that were born and live in chicago in a racist way

english isn't my first language so if i said something in a offensive way it wasnt on purpose, for example where I live (portugal) I call my black friends my ni--as and we see it as a cool thing and because we are brother something I know I couldn't do in the united states, even if im saying in a brotherly and respectful way which is kind of sad if you ask me

Only like 100 votes so far, the majority of which likely didn't see it. A super-controversial movie like this is also going to get a bunch of 1-votes automatically. I'm sure it'll eventually settle somewhere in the standard 5-7 range.

Internet racist trolls (which are just white male teenagers) always give movies directed by an African-American or starring one a 1 grade before the movie comes out.

reply

I just gave it a 1 rating.

Why? I truly hate this piece of Pro-black, race-baiting garbage called Spike Lee.

And no, I'm not white.

reply

I am going to go ahead and guess you haven't even seen this film, right?

reply

The idiots on IMDb arent smart enough to understand satire, the Greek play this so brilliantly updated to fit urban culture, the facts he is bringing up, and how amazing this film is. Most of these idiots just wanted to see Boyz N Da Hood 2. Spike is Scorsese level. His films make you think. They're artistic. He takes a unique approach. He is preachy (which offends some). He is not subtle. But at the end of the day he is a legend. RT gets it. Hence the 80%.

I like Spike Lee, but we have to admit it, he did made some bad movies like Old Boy remake for instance

Clockers is my favourite movie, mainly because it doesn't feel like a S.Lee movie, Jungle Fever was good too, but I gave ChiRaq a 1/10, I didn't expect to see a musical comedy which is what it is..
How long can you handle watching crappy actors rap all their lines?

reply

I have not and I don't plan to.

Spike Lee is a social activist who constantly plays the race card and makes racist statements through social media against White people and probably other races too.

Dad?

Spike Lee not shutting up?.
Why isbit Bad? It's good that there are some "famous" people criticising systems we live in, how can you expect change when everyone is ignoring the discussion about the topic, this only leads to rebooting the not talked about topic to new heights (history has proof). I know what some people here think (especialy here on imdb) "how come we cant criticise (opposing race, usualy everything non white)", why simple because all the stuff that happened and still is (The friendly police of our beloved United States of Air-conditioning, incarceration dominance of Ebony folks, general total domination in media of pale people, nearly non existent présence of Native Americans in media,...). What happens most of the times when criticism from pale people comes against every other skin type?, Fox News which basically sais day in day out everything non white is responsible for doomsday, some guy saying that Mexicans are rapists and drug dealers and of course you have to build a wall between Mexico and US (didnt we already have that in Berlin back then? And it failed miserably whaaat???) and... Oh wait whaat???? The guy is running for president and dominates all poles
(Jees i wonder how far fetched WW3 is with a poor soul like that)

Critics lived Quiz Show, too, and that has awful viewer response.

I saw this at the South Barrington 30 last night (Chicago burbs) and it was honestly a pretty major disappointment. I was hopeful it would make a more serious and honest attempt at social commentary, but alas, it's just yet another weak attempt by a has been filmmaker who has not really been relevant in a decade.

If you want a film based upon a mythological Greek premise, go rent "O Brother Where Art Thou" instead. If you want to learn more about why places like Englewood, Back of the Yards, West Garfield, etc. are Black hell holes, watch a well made documentary.

It's not awful, but it's not memorable either. A 4.5-5 sounds about right.

Some movies have an 8 user rating and a 40 metacritic... I love some movies critics and users hate. Who cares?
I liked it. That's all I can tell you. That's all I care about.

While rotten tomatoes is just PC whipped shills, many of them already paid off by the big studios to give automatic good reviews to less than stellar movies. It would be hard for brianless, spineless PC whipped shills to give bad review to a movie like this.
