The Magnolia House

So this bed and breakfast can only host one family at a time?

reply

According to the waco heart of texas website, it's not a B&B. It will be rented out as a vacation rental w/no in-house staff or food. Available in the spring of 2016.

reply

That's funny, considering she said "bed and breakfast" and "B&B" a combined total of 762 times in that one single episode. Even more times than her average mention of shiplap. And now it's not even a B&B! 

reply

Well, whatever they choose to call it... Vacation house, or B&B...
No way in HELL is it worth the $695 per night, that they're asking!!

$695 ?
You are dreaming. When I look at the website it is saying $995!!!

reply

When I just looked at the website it said $695. And I don't see any availability in the near future.

I want to know what about the 'innkeepers' that they redid the guest house for. Since it's no longer a B&B, where are they? And why isn't it a B&B any longer? So many questions...

reply

Looks like it ranges from $695 to $995 per night - but it does take up to 8 people I guess.
That seems pretty pricey for me though.

reply

It was never a B&B. She even said it wasn't. I guess it just sounds better.
They still need the 'innkeepers' to get the house ready in between guests and I assume to kinda be on call for the guests too.

reply

I don't recall her saying that it wouldn't be a B&B, in fact I remember her saying that it would be - that she had always wanted to operate one. ???

Waco might be a little like my hometown. Its heyday was several generations ago, so career prospects dried up and a lot of the working population moved away, but they have family who still live back here who they want to visit a couple of times a year and bring the kids along. You might be surprised at how many people move far from home, and need a place to stay when they visit family and friends back home - they don't want to stay with their families, they want to be able to come and go as they please.

Also, Waco has Baylor, and that lends itself to people visiting for academic or alumni activities, and they want to stay some place nice and homey. I went to a university in the south about the size of Baylor for my Masters degree that prides itself on its sports, and for a tiny town about 1/10th the size of Waco, there are so many first-rate hotels, B&Bs, rentable golf and waterfront communities, etc., you would think that it was an important city, not one with 13,000 residents. A big-time sports university will turn any town into a destination.
