Calling shenanigans on the "thousand dollar" estimate

...to replace outlets in the kitchen with GFCI plugs (Physicians to Farmhouse episode). This is way over reality, and the first time I witnessed outright B.S. on this show. I hope it's the last, because I was enjoying the fact that Fixer Upper seems to be so free of the fake drama you see on other renovation shows of this type.

6 to 8 GFCI outlets, maybe ten bucks each at Home Depot. Add 20 for cheap cover plates. That's 100 bucks in materials cost.

Then it takes what, 5 to 10 minutes per outlet to replace? No reputable electrician would charge 700 to 900 dollars for such quick work. I know this because I recently had some GCFIs replaced in my bathroom. So either Joanna was getting punked by her contractor, or the producers were adding in fake drama so they could make it seem like they were in danger of going over budget. LOL if you're going to overquote something so ridiculously, at least make it something that's not so easy to fact check.

Please don't treat your viewers like we're watching Love it or List it. We don't like that.

My husband and I both said the same thing...no way it cost that much to have the plugs replaced!

Is rewiring needed? If so, maybe it's the cost for an electrician. That's the best I can come up with.

to the first 2 posters....they needed to rewire all the outlets...they appeared to be 3 pronged outlets on the outside on the walls ,but the wiring they were hooked up to inside walls were 2 pronged...rewiring is EXPENSIVE!!!!

if they did what you said,,they would have taken the 3 prong outlets off and put more 3 prong outlets on, but they still would be wired into the wall with the wires for the 2 prong outlets

how is this not glaringly OBVIOUS????
