One thing that irritates me about the monk

I have seen many versions of this movie with the original title as Journey to the West. Plot is pretty much the same with some minor changes to the characters looks: monkey king, pig demon, and sand demon escorting the monk to obtain the scriptures in the West while fighting various demons along the journey. With every version, the pig and sand demon are as useless as always. Monkey king is the only reliable protector who seems unstoppable against every foe.

If you've watched the original Journey to the West, which was a rather long series, it may seem interesting at first but will get boring rather quickly as the plot becomes repetitive. The one thing that really bothers and irritates me the most is the stupid monk. He knows the monkey king is powerful, can see through demons disguises, and yet, always lectures and punishes him for the killing the "innocent" demons that are disguised as humans. It is the one part I don't understand and will always hate about the plot.

Other than that, I loved the CGI in this movie.

The monks that way because he's a buddist, and that means no violence including killing, and to show compassion. So he has to lecture monkey, as that is part of the deal, as monkey is supposed to become a buddist as well, though I don't think that is mentioned in this film, as a fair bit has been left out. I suggest getting the book, the various films ans series are based on, as you seem to be unaware of it, though its a long read.

I'm well aware that he is a buddhist and what the teachings are. Lecturing the monkey is fine, but failing to believe that the monkey is killing the demons, and not humans, and punishing him in the process is stupid, imo. On almost every occasion, the monk believe that the monkey is killing an innocent "human", which is not true. He is killing a demon disguised as a human who is trying to kill the monk.

I have never read the book before but I have seen the Chinese version, which is a long series and a lot was explained. So I am quite of what the whole ordeal was about.

Again, I just don't agree with how the monk acts towards the devoted monkey, which I find very irritating.

just as in real life, there are always demons masquerading as humans, they kill they cheat and steal, they sin.....

Just coz you cannot see them, it doesnt mean they dont exist !!

In that sense, you are like the monk, blind to the evil of demons disguised as men...

Metaphor or not?

You are missing the point, and the point is that demons and humans (sometimes) can get better and good, if you avoid to use violence against them. The reason White witch become demon was very clearly explained - the other people were saying she was a demon and killed her, which means that violence can only create more violence.

BTW - Monkey is actually killing humans, although they are the ones possessed by demons. He sees every demon as demon, no matter is he in human body or not, however, when he does that with demon in human body, he also kills the host - soul which had chance to get better before body was killed.

[red]I understand all the Buddhist Wisdom endured in this project, but I'm watching this movie which I really enjoyed but can't come to grip with the Monk punishing the King with killing the demons who took human form. What should have happen is the producers should have allowed the Monk to witness what the King was seeing somehow and then make judgement in the severity of punishment. Then the Queen in the clouds telling the Monkey King that its his fault for not protecting the Monk when all all along its the Monk who shunned the Monkey King. Its like if the Queen in the clouds knew what the Monkey King was or was not doing, looks like she could also have known that the Monk shunned the King and it was not the Kings fault for wandering off. IDK, that just irritated me. Forgive me I am bad with remembering characters.
