Nostalgia Porn

but done right. im starting season 2 finally but you can just feel the 80s oozing through.

I loved season 1 despite

Riders crying. and more importantly for me the inconsistency of the monster. so a bear trap and some fire messed up the monster hard. which walked slow. But by the end became a super fast machine that multiple guys with automatic weapons couldn't damage?

did I miss something or was it just inconsistent? I hope season 2 is just as good

Don't get your hopes up. It was all downhill after season one.

Season 2 is still ok, the real downhill is season 3 IMHO.

Is it really nostalgia porn, though? I mean, how many people do you know who whack off to The Goonies or Poltergeist or E.T.?

There's probably a contingent of low-vitamin-D boomers you haven't adjusted for.
Don't worry, they'll forget you sooner than you forget them.

I've seen a few Gen Xers--who you'd think would be more cynical of media manipulation like they claim to have been when they were growing up--that praise this show as 'the best thing on Netflix'. Not that that is a high bar.
Something about seeing a show set in a time when you were young, with characters of a similar age to yourself back then. The ones who have kids around age twelve seem to especially hold this series in high regard. I can only speculate that they must feel like they're sharing their childhood with their children or something.

I hope that in another twelve years or so, when they start rolling out the late '90s/early '00s nostalgia-themed media en masse I won't be suckered into uncritically heaping praise.
