So is Brenner alive or was that bullshit?

Cause that bald guy in season 2 sounded really genuine when he told Eleven that he's alive, so was that just bullshit so she wouldn't kill him? cause that sounded like more than him just making shit up so he can live, he sounded dead serious.

I'm pretty sure Brenner is alive. They never actually showed him die. The demogorgon launched itself at him, and they cut to another scene. He wasn't shooting at it so it probably batted him aside. None of those soldiers were the creature's target, it was looking for Eleven. They just got in its way.

I have a feeling we're going to see the good doctor again next season. He might be The American - that prisoner in the Russian compound. If not he'll be back in the states, maybe trying to round up his rogue subjects. At the moment he doesn't know El is still alive. If that changes though ...

She has unfinished business with her old Papa. At some point it's going to have to be settled.

Yeah i didn't think about that, i was thinking the American could be Hopper, but yeah it would make alot of sense if it was Brenner.

It's possible he could still be alive. They are probably saving him for Season 4 or 5. They probably just planted seeds/teased him being alive still in Season 2 and then would get to him in a later season. Just like The Mind Flayer we saw in the final shot of Season 2 wasn't the main monster in Season 3. Season 3 focused on the bit of The Mind Flayer that was in Will and that Joyce, Jonathan, and Nancy got out of him and was able to survive in our world. But the actual Mind Flayer is still out there and hanging around in the Upside Down waiting to attack. We'll see the characters face that Mind Flayer in a later season. Even those behind the camera said that that Mind Flayer is not the main monster of Season 3 and Season 3 will take a detour before the characters fight The Mind Flayer we saw in Season 2's final shot. So Season 2 set up Brenner's return but Season 3 will take a detour. I also think that Eight/8 was being set up for Season 4 or 5. I wasn't expecting to see her return in Season 3.

Also, Eleven wasn't going to kill that guy anyway. Even if Brenner is really dead, the guy that BS'ed Brenner was still alive just delayed Eleven killing him. But it was revealed that he was a father. She didn't want to be like him or Brenner/"Papa" and take away some kids' father like how she was taken away from her mom and her mom ended up getting her brain fried. So Eleven didn't spare the guy because she learned "Papa" was still alive. It was because he was a father and didn't want the kids growing up without their father.

Yeah i know Eleven was never gonna kill him, i just meant from his perspective saying that could delay her killing him cause he has info she may want to know, for all he knows she was gonna kill him.

But yeah i can see them saving Brenner for season 4 or 5, i could see him being revealed in the final episode of 4 and then he fully returns in season 5.

Unless they introduce totally new elements, they've got two unresolved plot threads. Number one: the government and its intentions toward their "special" kids. Right now Eleven is safe only by virtue of everyone but Dr. Owens thinking she's dead. Number two: the Mind Flayer is a giant world killing monster that won't give up, eventually either you take it down or it takes you down. The final showdown with the Mind Flayer will probably be the show's endgame. So next season we may see it on the back burner if, say, Eleven is captured by her dear old papa.

I don't think her losing the use of her abilities was anything physical, since they were still working after she got bitten and knocked around. I think it's a psychological block. At some level she doesn't want to be different anymore - she rather enjoyed feeling like a normal kid this season - so she's subconsciously suppressing the thing that makes her a freak. Like a power hitter who suddenly goes cold and can't stop striking out. The talent is still there but for whatever reason they can't make it work. At some point, when they're in the right frame of mind, it comes back. I'm sure that will happen to El in the end. Although an interesting plot line would be if she was caught by Brenner and he was the one (after several episodes of experimenting on her again) who brought them back.

The other possible Brenner story I see is if the Russians have him, and he ends up working with them. I think getting those demogorgons was the goal of their gate opening - maybe they see them as potentially trainable and controllable slave soldiers. An army of thousands of those things would sure strike a blow against the evil capitalists! With the Mind Flayer's symbiotic virus driven out of them they're just animals. From what we've seen they have at least a doglike level of intelligence so training them is not out of the question. If Brenner tells his Russian handlers about Eleven and the others El (and maybe her "sister" from season 2) could end up being abducted and taken to join him.
