Cast got ugly!

Hard to watch. Puberty’s a bitch.

reply

What an ugly thing to say.

Hard to read.

reply

Wow. You just come right out and call people ugly? Jesus. You must be a real delight to be around.

reply

I also didn't think they looked particularly different from previous seasons?.. 🧐
Just taller.

reply

They were pretty ugly looking to begin with, but when you are a little kid people don't really think much about whether someone is ugly or not unless they are super ugly... I think it is because most people assume people will look better when they grow up... but these kids didn't get any better when they grew up. Sadly for them the ugly duckling turning into a swan is a rarity and not the norm.

reply

Jesus, another one...

reply

Most people know they are ugly, but then most people have been convinced by snowflakes not to speak the truth.

reply

Most people learn that certain things shouldn't be said out loud by the time they reach adulthood.

But besides, in this particular case I don't agree that the "cast got ugly". I certainly haven't observed any changes that would warrant such comments.

reply

Spoken like a true snowflake... And I didn't say they got ugly, my statement was that they were pretty much ugly from the start but people just assumed they would get better when they grew up - they didn't.

reply

Since when does having tact equate to being a snowflake?

reply

Someone like he will never understand, we are wasting our time.

I can’t stand looking at Mikes dopey looking face. His head and nose is preposterous.

reply

This comment is preposterous.

reply

The size of your butthole is preposterous.

reply

LOL!!! XD XD XD

reply

Wtf...They’re kids. Hope you don’t watch them for the sex appeal, creep.

reply

Snowflake. Facts are facts when a kids ugly a kids ugly... you want the world to ignore reality?

reply

NOT FEELING THE NEED TO PROCLAIM ALL THE UGLY THOUGHTS IN YOUR HEAD IS WHAT KEEPS SOCIETY FROM IMPLODING...ITS CALLED TACT OR MANNERS OR ETIQUETTE....JESUS.

reply

Bullshit. If you want to be an actor and stick your mug out in public then the gloves are off when it comes to calling it like it is. And frankly it seems to be an American thing to ignore the fact that someone is ugly and never speak of what is evident to everyone, in other countries its they are more honest... not only with when someone is ugly but when they are fat or whatever. It is what it is, pretending no one notices is just stupid.

reply

OK...YOU HAVE CONVINCED ME...I WILL START TELLING PEOPLE HOW UGLY THEY ARE...GAME CHANGER,BRO.

reply

Lol. You're a fucking moron. I feel bad for you, Thomas.

reply

You know, I'm 63 and it has never been appropriate to call someone ugly. My parents were born in the 1920s and grandparents before the turn of the 20th century. None of them would be okay with calling someone ugly.

reply

Did you hear me calling the person ugly? No I said they were ugly, it is no more wrong to say someone is ugly than it is to say someone is black or white... a fact is a fact. You might not want to tell the person that they are ugly because that isn't necessary since they know they are ugly just like you don't go to someone that is white that they are white, they know it and it isn't said because it doesn't need to be. But if you are describing someone to someone else then facts of color, weight, ugly or whatever are fair game.

reply

That is just as rude as calling them that to their face. I know this is not something that is as well taught these days. So yes, you are being rude. Most generations would call you rude. Accept it and attempt to improve you manners.

Yes, I'm an old fuddy-duddy. That doesn't change things. And there are many, possibly most, youngsters who understand manners. Unfortunately, the ones who don't are the ones that get the attention.

reply

None of them has a bad case of acne. They just look a few years older. Whatever your issue is, I honestly don't see it.

reply

I think it's the haircuts and lanky skinny look. Their clothing and haircuts don't compliment them.

reply

That's just how people dressed in the mid-80's. No kid today would be caught dead in those clothes, but they got the style perfect - right down to the bowl cuts.

reply

I actually think their hairstyles look more 70s.

reply

Agreed, but keep in mind they live in a small community which usually lagged in trendiness/styles behind big cities.

reply

Not really. I grew up in a small town in the middle of the country in the 70's and that was when bowl cuts were the norm. The bowl cut was gone by the mid 80's unless you were in elementary school. The boys hair cuts were not right, the girls was.

reply

Not where I grew up in Toronto Canada. Nobody wore shorts unless they were near a beach. Jeans were the uniform of the teen masses although I do have a few old photos of me wearing long pants with some sort of hideous pattern on them.

This is one aspect of the series that didn't ring true for me. They dressed more like kids in grade school. If you watch movies of the era... ET, Goonies, Explorers, Back to the Future, etc... you won't find the young cast wearing shorts.

reply

Which of those movies was set in July? Kids have always worn shorts in the middle of the summer whether or not there was a beach nearby. It gets hot. They pretty much lifted this show's outfits straight from a 1985 Gap catalog. I grew up in a small American town a bit bigger than Hawkins but otherwise a lot like it. You can find a few minor anachronisms if you're sharp eyed enough. That's true of any production though. ST did a far better job with the little details than most.

reply

I'm not sure which movies are set specifically in Jul, but ET and the Goonies take place during summer months. Haven't seen Explorers in decades so can't say.

Kids would shorts, I agree. But aren't they high school teens in this series? No teens I ever grew up with were wearing this stuff. By the time high school hit most of us were getting very style conscious and shorts were most def not a thing with us.

It could be that small town America was behind the times as another poster pointed out. And, these are supposed to be nerds. Shorts were definitely something only social outcasts would have worn.

The girls were more accurate... getting very much into the whole Madonna, New Wave stuff.

reply

I thought that E.T. took place in October. They do go trick-or-treating.

reply

Yes, thinking about it, they were in school -- something about letting frogs go in biology class -- so, yeah, poor example.

reply

Here in California we all wore shorts, just about year round. I don't know what it was like in Indiana, but I can't imagine kids not wearing shorts in those hot summers there.

reply

Absolutely. I grew up in New York (upstate, not NY city) and shorts were the pants of choice whenever it was warm enough to wear them.

These days there's less regional variation in styles, products available in stores, slang terms, and other such things I've heard mentioned in reference to this show. We didn't have those, didn't use that expression, didn't listen to that kind of music, so on and so forth. The internet has been the great equalizer. Trends either fizzle out now or they go global. If you can find an item in one place, it's available everywhere.

reply

“Shorts were definitely something only social outcasts would have worn.”

They WERE social outcasts 🙄

reply

[deleted]

Damn dude, they are kids in puberty and changing/growing every day, they are not fully developed until they are even 21.

reply

I know they're changing I just think they look ugly now. The black kid is probably the only one who is ageing well.

reply

That's a bit too harsh. But yeah, cuteness is gone.
And story is a horrible mess.

reply

I know it's a shitty thing to say but considering those kids will never read this forum anyway....yeah, Mike and Will look pretty damn weird. Mostly because of those stupid haircuts.

reply

Yes haircuts and clothing. Will (Noah) is actually handsome with a good haircut. https://a.wattpad.com/cover/140744085-352-k76802.jpg

reply

Wow, that's a completely different person. I guess it makes sense for kids to not have style and just get any haircut but come one, Mike looks more like a girl than Eleven. Would nobody have mentioned that in the 80's?

reply

As a child of the 80s, some tv shows were reruns from the 70s. I couldn't believe that some boys had long hair like a girl. Even the boy in Neverending Story looked like a girl to me.

I'm guessing a lot of boys got confused for girls back then.

reply

I was born in 1983 and even as a kid i found the long haired boy look like a girl in Neverending Story, long hair went out of fashion fast towards the 90's for boys and even if you had just a bit of long hair you were deemed a girl here (in the Netherlands).
