Did anyone started signing along when the “Never Ending Story Theme Song” came up?
I know I did! I nearly burst into tears. That film reminds me of my childhood. I used to watch it all the time as a kid. In a series full of nostalgia, that segment really hit the mark.
I was in the middle on it. It was a little funny, but at the same time I was like, "dude, there is this giant battle going on. We need that code NOW!!!" If I was a character in the show and part of the final battle and was listening to Dustin trying to get Suzie to give the code, I would've been like, "Suzie, there are people dying and stuff. Right now isn't the time to be dicking around. Give us the code NOW!!!" I'm actually surprised Hopper didn't say anything. Any other time he would be flipping out on the kids and stuff when they were screwing around when stuff needed to get done or a plan needed to be made. Mainly flipping out on Dustin when he's going on about Dungeons & Dragons stuff and wondering how it is helpful for the situation they are dealing with. Then Hopper is getting all mad because Dustin is going on about some kids' game and half the stuff they can't really do. Also, when it comes to the narrative of the show, it just brings things to a halt because they decide to throw in a random music number. There is a huge battle going on. No time to be introducing music numbers into the narrative. It would be like cutting to a commercial break during a football game when the quarterback throws the ball DEEP to one of the receivers and the ball is in the air. Then we have to wait all commercial break (3-5 minutes) to find out if the receiver caught the ball, if it was an incomplete pass (receiver didn't catch the ball), or if the other team intercepted it. That's how I look at things, but even with how random it was, it was still a little funny and made me smile. So I'm in the middle on it overall.
Great point about Hopper. No way in hell he would have put up with that singing number going on so long and endangering the lives of everyone he loves. He was written out of character so the show could impress fans who used to watch "Glee." Lame!
The thing is he had no choice. His friend didn’t know that special number and everything was falling apart. Either Suzie had the number or they would die.
He probably figured that if he interrupted, the girl would’ve become rebellious and signed off. Thus, losing their last hope.
Lastly, only Dustin could speak to Suzie thanks to Cerebro. So, Hopper couldn’t do much, anyway.
Absolutely. It would've taken Dustin longer to explain what was happening than to just sing the song. And she never would've believed him. She'd think he was telling her a cool story because he missed her, or something like that. Hopper could've interrupted once Dustin patched Suzie in. But he was smart enough to realize that would probably blow their only chance of getting the code.
