Cleverly manages to be both original and a homage

King (IT) wrapped in Spielberg (ET) with a little Ridley Scott (Alien) and others thrown in. Really well made! Had me hooked from the first 10 minutes!

I'm with you. I thought it maintained a brilliant balance. Never crossed the line into out right stealing. The ones you mentioned are certainly central to the plot/homage ? but there were so many more that were referenced. The Thing, Stand by Me, Jaws, Poltergeist, Goonies, Indiana Jones, Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back, Evil Dead, Firestarter, Silent Hill (vg), arguably even Beetlejuice (with casting of Winona Ryder). I'm sure there are others ( in the areas of props, costumes, music, etc.) that I've forgotten or missed entirely. The terrific thing about it is that the whole series works whether you "get" these extra layers or not. My teenagers watched it & even though they didn't get many of the deeper references, loved it.

Yes it really is an achievement to be an original copy. Well picked up...

The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.

While i enjoyed this show, original is hardly the word i would use to describe it. It didn't do enough to cement its own identity in my opinion. I would like to point out we cannot fully judge this show yet either, until we have some sort of explanation which hopefully doesn't end up just mirroring Silent Hill even more than it already has with the monster being eleven's "dark side".

It's much more of a homage, but really well-done and fascinating. That's good enough for me.

You want something corny? You got it!
