I don't get DI Kane

He's a good detective but he's a complete twat and what's up with his face?

reply

I'm trying to work it if whatever is on his face is just an issue with the actor or intentional for character.

reply

It looks like the actor has psoriasis.

reply

I think you are right. Last week, his shirt cuff (no pun intended) pulled back from his wrist in several scenes inside the surveillance van, and his arm had a very painful looking number of psoriasis lesions above his wrist.

Ouch.

reply

Think the marks above his wrist might be from handcuffs. He is into S&M. Think more will develop in future episodes. He seems to be a very good cop but a somewhat strange person.

reply

Was sorry to read this series wont go into Series 2. Cuffs has only just started in Australia and we are into Ep.2. A lot of DI Kane's make-up and problems were mentioned in the last episode re the drugs at a posh Grammar School where he was an old boy. Kane told his colleague that his mother's funeral was on a Friday and he was packed off to boarding school the following week. He was only 7 yrs and was there for 10 yrs and "hated every second". Obviously an uncaring father and maybe no other siblings. His S&M pleasures are a bit of a mystery (certainly no judgement from me here) though suppose more might be revealed in future episodes. Cuffs is not the greatest but certainly not the worst either.

reply

But then he applied cover-up makeup to his face which made me think the skin issue is part of his storyline.

reply

But wasn't he using the make-up to cover up the long scratch/cut on his cheek? Not the skin condition?

It seems the cut on his cheek was a reference to his participation in S&M as his sexual preference OR it was the vile, evil crazy dad who lashed out and cut him on his cheek when he was trying to care for him.

Either way, it seemed to be a cut he was trying to obscure, after the quip by a colleague about it....

reply

Psoriasis can appear more around the body especially the face) when someone is stressed.
I'd guess that as the character is having issues with his elderly father then that could be playing a heavy part.
It is very convincing makeup, if indeed it is makeup.

It became clear this week.

He likes a bit of the rough stuff!

It's that man again!!

reply

I like him. He's the most interesting character on Cuffs. Others are total cliches. His skin condition adds to the mystery.

He's got my foot in a food processor.

reply

I agree, on the surface an unempathetic twat, but really quite an intriguing character.

reply

Really like the character and despite I've seen him in other shows I never really noticed the actor before. He's a fine actor!!
As someone else mentioned I think he ( unsure if the actor or character) has eczema / dermatitis type skin condition.
Definitely ecsasabated ( spelling?) by certain weather/ allergies or emotional states such as stress.
Just finished watching this series on dvd. Shame there's no 2nd series!

Never mind the face, what's with the hair? He looked as though he were wearing a very cheap wig that he had bought at a Hallowe'en costume store.
