Laughable

I watched this having genuinely liked the throwback style of Almost Human. However, I wanted to turn off The Mind's Eye multiple times - but thought it deserved a fair viewing before I could rightfully critique it.

That said: Awful. Absolutely awful. The acting alone was horrible, but the faces Zack and the doctor make while using their mind's eye was like one of the fights between Peter Griffin and the Chicken in Family Guy - taking something serious and not only making it funny . . . but making it go on so long that you can't help but laugh even harder at it.

The only difference is Family Guy is going for laughs.

Some people will sincerely enjoy this movie; some may enjoy it for its campiness. However, for a thriller/horror I found myself laughing too often to take it seriously.

Lauren Ashley Carter was the bright light acting wise in this mess. Everyone else was either wooden or over the top.

I never saw "Scanners" but knew of it and wasn't interested. But seeing that it was an 80's sci fi gorefest this did seem to want to hearken back to that film and others along it's budget. The lighting especially was lifted from those bad even for the times movies.

The whole "spinal fluid" serum is right out of the 1940's B movie mad doctor series of films where Karloff or Lugosi were always after it to make a life rejuvenating serum of some sort. "The Ape Man" and "The Corpse Vanishes" come to mind.

"Don't worry, Zack, I'm not a doctor....My name is Dr Michael Slovak"
