I really wanted to love this, but...

I really wanted to love this show, but holy hell the acting is horrible.

To me it was the script. I was happy to see Joel get regular work again, so was looking forward to this for a few months. I'm going to try and finish the first episode, maybe skip ahead to the 4th episode and see if the writing has improved.

I saw the trailer just now and was going to watch it for Joel (big fan) but I'm just not sure it looks all that great..

I always advise never listen to what other fans say (including me) unless you know their specific tastes. That being said, I really enjoyed the show. I've been saying it reminds me of a cross between Red Dwarf and Community. But I get you don't like it. I can't stand Big Bang Theory yet its the most popular comedy on tv.

right there with you with the community vibe btw love the show

reply

Ok.

reply

Agree gives me a community comedy vibe.

off topic: I also don't see what people love about big bang theory.

reply

I love community, but did not see the comparison to this show, i think this show was ok, but not fantastic, I gave it a 5/10 in my review. And just so its said I too can`t stand Big Bang Theory.

By Community, I was referring to the generally likable/unlikable, bizarre characters.

I thought same thing but by the 3rd episodes completion I was a fan. The one liners are clever and well placed. Writing is excellent and the actors, like in many shows, need time to grow into their roles and show much better skill later in the episodes. Again, all opinion.

I enjoyed it quite a lot. There are a lot of recurring jokes, and it gets quite subversive at times.

The pilot isn't the greatest (most pilots aren't), so if you gave up after the first episode, trying giving it 1-2 more episodes. I found that the show really hit is stride around episode 4.

The writing is just bad -- I watched about half of the first episode, didn't have a single laugh. The writing is worse than most of what passes for a prime time sitcom, and that's a really sad, low benchmark, considering lately what passes for humor on network television.

reply

I'm not trying to change your mind but the first half of the pilot was just set up.

I kinda hated the first 2 and half episodes, but from 3 and forward I *beep* LOVED THE SHOW! IT IS SO GOOD! OH MY GOOD, One of the best shows i've watched in 2015. Just give it a chance! sry for the broken english.

Same thought.

I also really wanted to love this...and I do!

No sarcasm intended here, but could it be that (with the exception of Joel and I only love him because I'm a MiSTy) there's not a likable male lead in the ensemble?

I still liked the show, but I had a hard time finding a male avatar to root for.

reply

I could see it feeling that way for the first couple episodes, but they all grew on me by the end. Especially Kent.

reply

To be honest it was refreshing. I was thankful that there wasn't a typical guy on the show. They are too often written to take over every conversation and deliver the best jokes.
