A master class in how to not make an action film

Jesus Christ, what a mess.

Nonsensical plot.

Poor mixing. Dialog and effects wildly disproportionate. Lots of mumbled lines.

Perhaps the worst offence, wasting the talent of Iko Uwais. That first fight in the embassy. I think the average cut was about 0.002 seconds long. Some clear inspiration from Olivier Megaton and the fence jump in Taken 3. Just totally disorientating.

On the plus side, Ronda Rousey wasn't utterly terrible. I guess with limited lines and a small role, it was difficult for her limited acting experience to be apparent.

Sadly, I agree.

The editing kills this film and I have no idea what Peter Berg was thinking there. He's been a pretty reliable filmmaker in the past--Patriots Day I thought should've been a Best Picture nominee--but in the editing of Mile 22 it's as if he was bored and decided to get experimental and the results are terrible.

As you say, Iko Uwais is wasted. You don't hire a guy like that unless you want to really show off what he can do and this film fails spectacularly on that front.

I agree about Rousey though. She was okay.
