Two things ruin FF movies

One is overdoing the shaky camera work. Obviously, this type of movie, by its nature, requires that the camera shake and move a little. However, when long segments of the movie consist of the camera pointing at the ground while someone runs, or jostling around so that the viewer can't make out what's happening, you are overdoing it.

The other thing that ruins FF is over-populating it with characters that turn into screeching, quivering useless masses of jelly the instant things go bad. Real people don't act like that in emergencies. One or two may not be as resourceful as the others, but generally speaking, not many people will just begin to scream and sob for the next 90 minutes. As viewers, we immediately turn on those pathetic characters. It's the equivalent of sitting next to a crying baby in the movie theater. All we want is for the person to shut up....and die.

This movie dinged the bell on both of those factors. The shaky camera work was overdone. And the character of Sarah just about single-handedly ruined the movie. She was loud, annoying, useless, and not resourceful in any way. In other words, there was nothing that made her worth investing in, worth caring about, or worth cheering for. The only two characters I cared for much at all were the common-sense Rachel and the resourceful-ish Omar. The rest mostly just shouted and whined until they were put out of our misery.

It's too bad, really, because the premise and setting were awesome. Most of the execution was great, right up til the bombing started. Then I just couldn't wait for it to end and the sobbing and crying to be over.
