One issue that never left me

I posted this question on the show's board and I hoped others from this one may want to weigh in...

I go back & forth on it. I figured they probably went out for about a month, at least three weeks after Patrick said it in 2x05, b/c enough time had passed by 2x06 for Patrick to be calling Richie his boyfriend, and like you said two more weeks after that until the wedding.

So I always thought it HAD to happen sometime during that time -- but then again Richie wasn't pushing for it & Patrick might have been saving it for a special time. I can see him making a big deal about it in his mind & wanting to set the stage perfectly with some perfect date & lighting candles & whatnot.

I could interpret it either way!

Me too! I go back and forth, constantly. I can't make my mind up. And it frustrates me so much because the show has made it clear how significant this is and then withheld information on how did things conclude on this specific issue for Richie and Patrick before they broke up.

I also see it as being significant for everything that comes afterwards, so yeah. Frustrated.

Though obviously by the time the movie comes around, Patrick is meant to have learned how to just go with the flow, as demonstrated through his one night stand. But I still can't brush the issue off as simply as that, because whatever Patrick and Richie have lying in their future, it relates to their past as well. But we don't know what that past is, not completely.

Oh, I could sooooooooo see Patrick wanting to go all romantic when bottoming for Richie for the first time, which only makes the scene with Kevin in ep 108 all the sadder...

Hmm, that's interesting. It didn't occur to me as something that might be a problem moving forward. I always had the sense that R&P had a great physical connection and that they would have gotten around to everything, just that it was a matter of time and Patrick relaxing. Whether that happened earlier or happens in the future after the movie, I still feel the same way about it -- these two are in it for the long haul and they have all the time in the world to have every experience with each other.

It does make 108 a little more dramatic if R&P had not done it, b/c that just compounds Patrick's feeling of compulsively going through with this mistake, as far as he can take it. To be saving it up for a special moment with one guy & throwing it away with another, I think says a lot about the respective dynamics.
