SPOILERS AHEAD!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
So what are the 'hungries' supposed to eat now that all the humans are dead or have turned? Cats? Birds? That doesn't make any sense all the hungries were supposed to live on that or just the kids that were born with the disease? They are also supposed to turn into plant things eventually though, right? I hope the book was better because this movie was a mess except for Glen Close of course she was excellent!

The ending makes perfect sense. They are they new adaptation for a humanoid race to survive. They could certainly breed animals to eat later on.
