Seems entertaining enough, but pretty close to the standard old "religious imposter gradually actually becomes good and will eventually be backed up by the townsfolk when they inevitably get found out." Also see similar tropes with Principal Skinner on the Simpsons or the 90s movie Trapped in Paradise.

Cinemax's Banshee has a similar plot with a 'fake cop'... who while not exactly Good, has shown that the real cop likely would not have been able to handle the problems

and Martin Lawrence had Blue Streak in the late 90s as a thief who hid his stash in a construction site, that turned out to be a police station
