Her use of a prostitute

Why would someone as beautiful and young like Elizabeth need to use a prostitute? Getting sex without commitment is easy for someone that looks like her. Just walk into a bar. Did anyone find this part of the plot to be ludicrous?

Also, does anyone know why she would risk jail time just to win this bill? What motivated her? She never really seemed to be that much of a believer in strict gun control.

Sloan is a career obsessed woman with no time for relationship entanglements. She uses escorts the same way men do. Yes, even some very attractive powerful women use escorts.

Not so far fetched.

reply

I think it's incredibly far fetched for a woman with her looks to do this. who knows, maybe this script was written with a man as the lead and they just went with it. The vast majority of people who use prostitutes are men. I continue to be incredulous about that plot point.

Plus if she were to just "go into a bar" and accumulate notches on her belt, people would talk. She had a reputation to protect, and required discretion

reply

with and escort you get quality and discretion. You are not going to get that picking up some guy in a bar.

reply

This. Maybe 1/100 times you could get quality and discretion but at those odds it would be wildly inefficient.

She didn't want To bother or waste her time even talking to the guy.. doesn't make sense that she go to a bar every night and try to find someone new everytime?? If she wasn't pretty your saying it would make more sense?. But Its more about convenience..she was all about handling business.. in all aspects ha.

I agree... with the prostitute, she goes straight to the hotel, he's there waiting for her, she has sex and can leave when she wants. Plus I assume she knows that he is 'safe', no STI's and he's not going to become clingy/want a relationship... completely stress free. And besides, perhaps she just finds the whole thing a bit more exciting, she has the power and he has to do what she says.

When Elizabeth and Forde first encounter, she says 'smoke is detecteable, it's unprofessional' and then when they're in the lobby she's trying to avoid being seen with him in public. She definitely don't want this whole situation to be traced.

Walking into a bar for this where anyone can see her with someone else wouldn't be so smart. So, It makes sense based on her desire to keep this kind of relationship off the radar.

It was part of her "cold bitch" shtick. The whole character was horribly written and one dimensional.

And that would be fine, except that everything this character does feels like a gimmick. Clearly the screenwriter has a horrible understanding of women.

It was a device to show that the "prostitute" behaved with more humanity than the Senators and the lawyers and lobbyists. Based on his last appearance in the film, it can be argued that the whole prostitute sub plot was utilized to say that "even prostitutes" are better than politicians and the NRA.

As for whether Elisabeth would use a prostitute and why, that was explained by some of the other posters above, as well as by Elisabeth herself on two occasions. She was damaged from childhood, that's why she was succesful in a career that required no feelings; she could not have a normal life. Just needed sex, and not with just a stranger but with somebody that could never claim any emotional connection to. Strangely, he was the most "human" and connected, and decent of them all.

It has nothing to do with being beautiful. You think only ugly people are paying for sex? It's a control issue.

She obviously has a lot of trust issues, probably stemming from her childhood, worsened by her position and her fear of making herself vulnerable to an attack or blackmail.

It's not about the sex. It's just like her eating at the same *beep* noodle place every day. It's a function she fulfills out of physical need but she doesn't care much about it one way or the other and she feels safer if she's in control of it.

"the best thing about prostitutes is they leave immediately." i think Charlie Sheen said it? that's what she wanted. i think her motivation is "it's not enough that I win. you have to lose."
