Maya Rudolph is such a scene-stealing hog!

It seems that every project she stars in, she comes off as overzealous, like a stage performer so desperate to please the audience. She did this in The Spoils before Dying as well and she did this in her one-time variety show. Her performance in this Murray Christmas special felt so shoehorned in, not organic like everyone else. It came off like, "I need the cameras to be on me!! It's my turn in the spotlight!!"
Maya Rudolph is definitely one of those Stage Camp Girls who grew up. Think Rachel Berry in Glee or Anne Hathaway in everything.

Actually to me her character came across as a failed lounge singer with bigger ego than she should have, which is pretty standard for the characters she usually plays. I think this point was really driven home by the epilogue scene where she's sitting in the club drinking by herself.

I know you've had a rough time.
